Is Hillary Clinton considering a 2020 presidential run?

As you may know there has been a lot of speculation that former Secretary of State and 2016 Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton could launch a 2020 presidential campaign. That speculation grew today after a Twitter exchange with President Trump.

Hillary Clinton also joked on PBS that she could "beat him again" referring to her winning the popular vote despite the fact that she lost the electoral college in a landslide. Clinton has said in the past that she is not running in 2020 despite rumors of her doing so for months now.

But could she still do so? I think there is a chance. For one thing this is Hillary Clinton we are talking about. Say what you want about her but she isn't a person that gives up. She desperately wanted the presidency in 2016 and felt entitled to win it. She still refuses to accept her own responsibility for her failure and hates the fact that she lost.

And I think she has a pretty good opportunity. All of the front runners are in trouble. Joe Biden is the most obvious. He's got some health issues and questions about his mental faculties. Plus he had serious accusations of improper behavior among women and children, even though the media buried that story. Finally, he's also got the Ukraine scandal. Though the media has desperately tried to make that one about President Trump, there are some very obvious corruption concerns there that will likely kill his campaign.

Elizabeth Warren has some weakness as well. She's been caught in several major lies lately, including a breaking one where she lied about being fired for being pregnant. She also has a huge issue of her lying about being Native American. Most seriously is the fact that she just can't handle President Trump. Warren has always struck me as someone who cannot stand people talking back to her and she has completely failed to respond correctly when Trump trolls her.

Bernie Sanders could have been a contender as well, but he's dealing with major health issues. He had a heart attack and then had a stent put in. It's going to effect his campaign at the best and he could even drop dead before the first primary vote is cast. Even if his health recovers he doesn't seem to be making the impact he had in the 2016 race.

None of the other candidates seem very realistic. Pete Buttgieg seems the most likely but he's pretty boring. Kamala Harris bombed at the debates and is hated because she used to be a prosecutor. Andrew Yang is mostly a meme candidate and none of the other clown car members have made much of an impact.

With the field this week I think a dark horse candidate could very easily jump into the race. I think that Hillary Clinton could do so. Her competition is very poor and I think she could immediately jump to front-runner status.

But will she do it? I am not sure. I think it depends on whatever the internal polling says. I am not sure if the Democratic caucus would want to go with a proven loser like Clinton again. And it's not like the Democrats were united around Clinton the last time. People still believe, correctly, that she stole the election from Bernie Sanders. Plus, she doesn't appeal to either the economic leftists or the woke idpol people either.

Still, there are signs that she might be considering it. She's been doing the talk show circuit quite a bit and people are openly talking about her running. There are even hoax posts on Twitter and other message boards like 4chan that use the 2015 announcement trying to convince people that she already announced a 2020 run. I think it's very possible that she jumps in, regardless of her repeated denials.

If she does and somehow becomes the candidate, does she beat President Trump? I can't see how. She already failed to beat him once and I doubt she can peel away more states from Trump. Trump's base loves him, he's got the natural advantage of  incumbency and has a great economy to back him up.

Clinton also has huge problems that were exposed in 2016. Her husband is an accused rapist, she's widely seen as corrupt and is generally unlikable. Her party isn't the same one it was in 2016 with her faction of relative centrists losing power quickly. And she proved ineffective at fighting President Trump. Plus her health, always a concern, hasn't improved since 2016.

And that might be the biggest reason why Hillary Clinton might not run. I think deep down she knows that she will lose if she wins in 2020. I doubt her ego can handle another defeat on the scale of 2020. I doubt she will enter the race but if she does it will be a fools errand.
