Justice Department rejects effort to end case against former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe. Charges seem imminent.

Andrew McCabe. Reuters.

The Justice Department has rejected an effort by former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe to drop an investigation into improper leaks to the media. Reuters. McCabe was being investigated for leaking information to the media. He is accused of lying to Inspector General investigators about a leak to the media concerning the Hillary Clinton investigation. McCabe says his memory was faulty and that there is bias against him. However, McCabe himself has been accused of bias in favor of Hillary Clinton and against President Donald Trump. If charged McCabe would be the first government official charged in relation to the 2016 election.

My Comment:
First of all, let me say how garbage all of the reporting is on this story. Every article I read focused on the fact that President Trump criticized Andrew McCabe for his behavior and quoted McCabe's defense of the charges before they even talked about what the issue is. These charges aren't from his relationship with President Trump but because he misled investigators on the Hillary Clinton investigation. The media is going to bat for McCabe and doing some major damage control.

From what I understand McCabe leaked something to the Wall Street Journal, which revealed an investigation into Hillary Clinton. This was already against the rules of the FBI and counts as misconduct, but isn't criminal. However, misleading the investigators about what he did is illegal and that's why he's likely to be charged.

As an aside, I have always thought it was horrible that you can be charged with lying to the FBI. Lying is a human universal, especially when under stress. It shouldn't be a crime to do something that the police are allowed to do to you. That being said, I'm fine with McCabe being charged here as he is pretty obviously in the wrong.

McCabe was a huge player in the Mueller scandal and the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation scandal. It seems pretty obvious at the very least he was biased against President Trump and that colored his investigation into him. I think it probably goes beyond that and he did some illegal things before President Trump was even elected.

The big hope is that McCabe can now be flipped to target other people in the government who have so far evaded charges. Former FBI Director Jim Comey seems to be safe as the Justice Department has already decided to decline charges against him, but a lot of other people could be in play, including some very big names.

I do have to say that the investigation into the origins of the Mueller scandal and the shady stuff that went down in the 2016 election is a hard topic to cover. Mainstream media does nothing to explain to people what crimes were likely to have committed and you are pretty much left on your own to do your own research. Doing so makes this a subject that's hard to convey to others how important it is.

I mean how do you explain to someone who believes that Russia interfered in the 2016 election that first of all they didn't do much and second of all, the government did way more to interfere with it in the first place? These people are massively corrupt but until mainstream media reports on the awful things they do most people will remain ignorant.

Not helping things is how complicated these subjects are. Most people have no idea what goes into FISA investigations, what's legal and illegal when it comes to media leaks and what the professional ethics are in the FBI and other government agencies. I have trouble getting all the nuances myself and I think I am way more informed than the average person. The main problem for the people is that there isn't really too many people out there that can hold your hand and walk you through it as the national news media, even on the conservative side, doesn't want to cover this story...
