Nikki Haley suffers humiliating defeat in Nevada Primary where Donald Trump wasn't even on the ballot.

Nikki Haley has suffered a humiliating defeat in a Nevada Primary which didn't have Donald Trump on the ballot. BBC. Haley lost by a large margin to "none of these candidates" in a redundant race that had low turnout. Haley got around 31% of the vote while "none of these candidates" got 63%. Trump did not participate in the primary because the Republican Party decided that they would not go along with the Democratic legislation to force a primary vote and will instead have their caucus on Thursday, with Nikki Haley not participating. Trump will likely win all of Nevada's 26 delegates in that primary. Joe Biden won his respective primary.

My Comment:

This was the expected outcome of this race and it's not all that newsworthy. Haley's rather bizarre plan to participate in a primary disavowed by her own party appears to have backfired on her and I find it very funny and that alone justifies the post. She literally lost to "please god, anyone else".

I don't really understand why Haley didn't participate in the caucuses. She had no chance to win Nevada, it's Trump country, obviously, and she spent absolutely zero time there. But if she had at least participated in the caucus, she would have gotten a few delegates. It would cut into the lead that Trump has and would possibly turn things around for her if she somehow managed to pull off a stunning upset in South Carolina, which she won't. But at least she would have a better shot at the long-shot miracle happening.

Instead her strategy seems to be to focus entirely on other states while at the same time saying the race was rigged against her. She's kind of right there, but she's the one that rigged it against her! It's such a strange move that I can't really begin to understand it. There were delegates for the taking and all she had to do was grab them, but instead they are most likely entirely going to Donald Trump.

The only thing I can figure is that she was expecting to win the race so she could at least claim a moral victory. If that was the plan, the plan sucked because she lost in a landslide against nobody. I think it's a clear sign that most voters in Nevada do not want Haley, partially because they want Trump instead and partially because she snubbed the state. And even if that was the plan, why? What do you gain there? Some plot to force the GOP to abide by the results of the primary and not the caucus? Why would she think that would work?

Either way, with Trump looking to win in a landslide both in Nevada and South Carolina, it's very strange that Haley is still in the race. Trump is going to be the nominee barring something unprecedented, tragic or diabolical happening, and the longer Haley stays in the race the worse it is going to be for her. This humiliation is just the beginning. You would think avoiding losing her home state of South Carolina in an absolute landslide, recent polling has Trump with a 60 point lead there, would be motivation enough to drop out, but I guess not? Haley's in real danger of ending her political career for no real reason.

The only thing I can think of is that she has some special knowledge of something coming down in the pipeline that will make Trump irrelevant. I don't even want to suggest what that could be, but it's the only thing that makes any sense. I am hopping that I am wrong and Haley is just making a terrible mistake, but still. I worry.
