Senator Mitch McConnell says he will not support an effort to remove Joe Biden from the Presidency. New York Post. McConnell cited the fact that Democrats control the house and the Senate as a reason not to impeach Biden. Many other Republican politicians, including McConnell's ally Lindsey Graham, have called for Biden's impeachment over his mishandling of the Afghanistan crisis. The Republican base has been calling for the impeachment as well, with many Republicans flooding phones and e-mail inboxes of their elected officials. McConnell seems to be focusing on the 2022 midterms instead, citing the Biden administration as a factor that could push Republicans over the edge in Congress and the Senate.
My Comment:
This is why Republicans are thought as the Washington Generals of the US political system. Democrats impeached President Donald Trump twice for absolutely nothing. They just didn't like him but to their credit they actually listened to their base and actually did something, even if it was going to fail. But for the Republicans it doesn't matter that Biden caused the worst foreign policy disaster since 9/11 (perhaps exceeding it). Doing something about it would require a backbone and it's clear that McConnell doesn't have one.
I think that McConnell doesn't understand that the GOP base is going to be absolutely furious with him. They already perceive him and his party as utterly giving up when he refused to even entertain the idea that the election was stolen. And they are not happy that he is allowing the Democrats to get stupid things like the infrastructure plan passed. The feeling is that the Republicans don't do anything for the base and that is a very bad thing for the midterms.
And I don't think he really understands how dangerous this is. Right now many Americans, especially in our armed forces, are extremely mad that there has been no accountability for losing Afghanistan and the horrible terror attack that killed 13 of our service members. Nobody has been fired and nobody has resigned... except for the Lt. Col. that spoke out demanding accountability. He was removed from command and ended up resigning.
People are demanding accountability and we aren't getting it. And given how angry people are and how heartbroken they are there is a real chance of violence. At some point people are going to be sick and tired of no action being taken and it could lead to some very bad things. McConnell could fix this with an impeachment but he either doesn't understand the danger or doesn't care.
As for Biden I know he won't be removed. Unlike the Republicans, the Democrats stick together. Though they have been distancing themselves from the Biden administration there is no apatite for removing him. To do so would require admitting that putting a senile old fool in office with no regard with what people want was a major mistake. And that will never happen.
But I do think that there is a chance that Biden does get removed before his term is up. I think there is going to be a massive red wave election in 2022. Afghanistan isn't the only problem the Biden administration is dealing with. They have botched the Coronavirus, are backing extremely unpopular things like gun control, alienated the progressive left by not delivering on their hobby horses and, most critically, killed the economy. If the Democrats do win in 2022 you will know for sure that our elections are no longer valid as there is no way that the Democrats can win fairly under these circumstances.
