Eight year old Secoriea Turner. Atlanta Journal Constitution.
An eight year old girl was shot and killed by Rayshard Brooks protesters near the Wendy's where Brooks was shot. Atlanta Journal Constitution. Secoriea Turner was shot and killed across the street of the destroyed restaurant. Her mother and a friend were trying to turn around when they were confronted by protesters with long guns. Protesters have erected barriers in the area, which police have removed at least once. Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
A second deadly shooting occurred in the same area today. WSB-TV. Three people were shot and one of them fatally next door to the Wendy's. Police say there was an exchange of gunfire between two people, which resulted in three people being shot. The incident came just hours after Mayor Kiesha Lance Bottoms appeared with Secoriea Turner's family saying that the Wendy's would be cleaned out of protesters.
My Comment:
I haven't been following what was going on in Atlanta closely after the Rayshard Brooks shooting, but it seems like we have another mini-CHOP occupation in the city. And just like the anarchists in Seattle it looks like they have a problem with shooting innocent children.
I'm not sure why the left is having so many problems with these armed protests. The right has been doing this for awhile and nobody ever seems to die during their armed protests. They only one I can think of was LaVoy Finicum, part of the 2nd Bundy standoff, and he was killed by the cops, and didn't shoot anyone.
I think it probably has a lot to do with the fact that most right wing gun owners are more professional and well trained than these leftists. They understand gun safety laws and realize the bad optics of shooting innocent people. These leftists? They have no clue what they are doing and people are getting hurt. I doubt any of them have a military or police background (naturally) and if they have taken their guns to a range to practice more than once I'd be surprised.
It's unclear what exactly what happened with the Secoriea Turner death. I guess there is a small chance that the shooting was justified legally but I don't think that is going to fly. It's possible that someone thought their life was at risk because of how the car was being driven but in that case, why not shoot the driver instead of the little girl? I don't think there is going to be any justification for what was done here and I sincerely hope that whoever shot this little girl goes to prison for the rest of their lives. If they can be found that is...
What is most ironic about this and the CHOP shooting that left a 16 year old dead is that this is supposed to be a Black Lives Matter protest. I guess George Floyd, a drug user who overdosed, and Rayshard Brooks, a child abusing drunk who fought with the cops, are worth more than an innocent eight year old girl or a 16 year old boy. They were black too and I'd argue that a child's live is worth way more than the lives of the people that shot them. And, with what shouldn't be a controversial statement but probably will be anyways, their lives mattered more than the lives of George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks.
I do think we are getting a pretty strong argument against letting anarchists and activists set up illegal and armed occupations of private and public property. Though I do agree that cracking down on these things with military force would have been a mistake, it's also clear that innocent people are getting hurt. It's time that the police come and clear these people out. These people aren't like the mostly peaceful right wingers like the Bundy Ranch folks, these are trigger happy idiots that are getting innocent people killed.
Of course the police have little incentive to do so. The Rayshard Brooks case is one of the most obviously justified cases of a police shooting I have ever seen and the officers involved still got arrested. Why should cops risk their lives clearing out this Wendy's protest when if they have to defend themselves from these trigger happy idiots they would be the ones going to jail? Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact than an eight year old was murdered I'd say let the area rot. But it's clear that things have gone too far in Atalanta and that police need to restore order.
