The New York Times had an anonymous editorial reportedly from inside the Trump admin.

President Donald Trump.

As you are almost certainly aware, the New York Times published an editorial from a supposed high ranking insider trashing President Trump and claiming that some of his own people were working against him. I won't link to the story because I think the New York Times crossed a massive line here and I don't want them to get any revenue from views. The story should be trivial to find if you really want to read it.

If the allegations are true than there is a conspiracy against him among his highest ranking officials. They are attempting to undermine his authority and have even raised the specter of using the 25th amendment to remove President Trump.

This is, quite frankly, sedition or even treason. Deliberately trying to undermine the President of the United States is a crime and if they did so at the behest of a foreign government then it is treason. Sedition is a 20 year sentence and treason is a death penalty case. President Trump himself suggested that treason was the crime on Twitter.

So is it real? I think there is a real chance that the New York Times made the whole thing up. I mean CNN just did the same thing with the story they had from Michael Cohen's lawyer who CNN denied who was the source. Lanny Davis then said that the story was untrue and CNN stood by their story even after that happened. I doubt that the New York Times is above doing such a thing.

On the other hand President Trump is sure acting like it is real. He immediately bashed the Times and the author of the op-ed and called on the Times to reveal the source. That lends credibility to the stories authorship being legit, even if the claims in it are not true.

I am guessing there are going to be huge repercussions for the New York Times for this story if the author does not come forward. There is no way that Trump can allow someone who is determined to both undermine his presidency and attempt to remove him. If they don't turn him over then there is a real chance of people from the Times going to prison and if it is a treason case, potentially facing the death penalty.

For people saying I am being a bit over the top for saying that treason is on the table consider this. Lindsey Graham, a frenemy of President Trump, was asking about treason during the hearing for Brett Kavanaugh. He asked Kavanaugh about the differences between criminal and military law and asked if someone was working with an enemy government if they could be treated as an enemy combatant. (start up the below video at 26:00.)

EDIT: Youtube removed the link.

Now let me be clear. Graham could be talking about things like ISIS fighters or other Islamic militants fighting against the United States overseas. But that seems like a huge coincidence to me. If Graham knew about this story in advance he could have been bringing it up for a different reason.

There is a lot of speculation of who this insider could be, for obvious reasons. A lot has been made of the fact that the word "lodestar" was used in the article. Lodestar was a catchphrase for Mike Pence and that could implicate either him or one of his speechwriters. I think this a huge leap of faith for several reasons, the most obvious being that I doubt Pence would have anything to do with it. I also think it's either a coincidence or an attempt at both driving a wedge between Trump and Pence as well as obscuring the man's true identity.

I doubt that it is anyone that important though. My guess is that it is some low level staffer that is the aide of someone more high ranking. It won't be someone we have heard of, if they exist at all. All I know is that whoever it is better have a damn good lawyer and hope that he isn't tried in a military tribunal.

I also have to say that the timing of this is deliberate. Trump seems likely to release classified FISA documents that will probably show that the Mueller probe was based on a great big lie and was a deliberate attempt to revoke the results of the 2016 election. I am guessing that Trump is sure to release those documents now and this is just the Deep State's attempt to get on top of it.

And it is clear that the Deep State isn't a conspiracy theory anymore. By definition a group of un-elected people trying to undermine the President of the United States and remove him is the Deep State. And they have basically admitted to it in America's paper of record. There will be consequences for this and there will be a reckoning...
