US Senator calls on Biden administration to drop plans to admit Ukraine into NATO

US Senator Josh Hawley has called on the Biden administration to drop plans to admit Ukraine into NATO. The Hill. Hawley said that the move would not help counter China and did not serve US interests. Though Hawley said he would support sending arms to Ukraine, he did not support going to war for them. Hawley sent a letter to the State Department asking how admitting Ukraine could possibly help the United States.

My Comment:

Senator Hawley's thoughts on this matter are close to my own, but not quite. I personally think that we should invite Russia into NATO before Ukraine. At least they would be a helpful ally, compared to the absolute millstone around the neck that Ukraine is.

The ONLY purpose of having Ukraine as an ally is to draw us into a war with Russia, which is unthinkable. Ukraine has no strategic resources and would be a helpful ally against our true enemies, such as China, Iran or international terrorists. Their military is underfunded, their government is corrupt and they would offer little more than a speedbump in any hypothetical war with Russia, which is not something we should be considering under any circumstances.

And keep in mind that Ukraine supports literal Nazis in their civil war against the rebels in the Donbass region. For all the absolute hysteria in the United States about Nazis hiding behind every couch, what business do we have supporting a government that supports an actual Nazi militia? It makes zero sense.

This stupid attempt to bring Ukraine into NATO is the sole reason why we are having problems with Russia, and I don't blame them. Us bringing Ukraine into NATO would be the equivalent to Russia bringing Canada and Mexico into a new Warsaw Pact. We would never accept that so why should the Russians accept this?

And don't give me the "Russia is evil" line either. Russia is a pseudo-democracy oligarchy with fraudulent elections and treats political dissidents poorly. In short, they are exactly the same as our government under Joe Biden, only with a more competent, non-senile president. Whatever sins Russia is guilty of, and they are guilty of many, we are no better than them.

My guess is that Biden is doing all of this just as a distraction. His poll numbers would have to raise 10 points to get out of the toilet and I think he suspects a major foreign crisis will help distract from the fact that inflation has wiped out any wage gains. It's not going to work since it is fairly transparent and pretty much everyone is asking what our interest in Ukraine is.

Unfortunately, there are far too many Russia hawks in both parties in the United States. Our governments actions make no sense but with the hawks in congress I don't see any better solutions coming. I am guessing Russia will not invade and cooler heads will prevail in the end, but it won't be because of anything the Biden administration does...
