Minnesota house GOP candidate given a concussion by an attacker at a restaurant.

Minnesota house GOP candidate Shane Mekeland. Star Tribune.

A candidate for a Minnesota state house seat has been injured in an attack at a restaurant. Star Tribune. Shane Mekeland is running for the 15b house district, which is an open seat. Last Friday Mekeland was attacked as Mekeland was talking to people at a restaurant and received a concussion. The attacker is still under investigation and his name has not yet been released. Mekeland said that the attacker made a political statement about politicians not caring about the middle class. Mekeland criticized the lack of civility present in politics today and criticized Maxine Waters, Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder.

My Comment:
Though Mekeland was running for a relatively unimportant state house race, it is still disturbing that he was attacked like this. A concussion is a very serious thing and blows to the head can kill. Mekeland was lucky that he wasn't hurt or disabled by this attack.

These kinds of attacks seem to be more common. There was an attack in California recently and of course there was the castor bean attacks against Trump, Ted Cruz and members of Trump's staff. And we also can't forget that there was the Alexandria shooting as well.

I do think that Democratic politicians should take some of the blame for this. There is no evidence that this particular attack is due to the comments of people like Maxine Waters, Corey Booker, Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder, but there isn't any evidence that it isn't either. However, if the investigation does show that the attacker was inspired by those politicians then they should pay a political price for this.

I fear that these kinds of attacks might become more frequent. The Democratic party has whipped their constitutes up into a frenzy and there is very little release for them. I think many people realize that they are losing and might want to do something stupid or dangerous. Though I hope this isn't a sign of things to come...
