Not a single person was carrying. Nobody was able to stop him from burning more people after he burned the first one.

My Comment:
I saw some video of this incident and the whole thing is absurd. It's like none of the people involved know how to do anything related to first aid or self defense. First of all, it was all well and good that folks were trying to help the injured but it was an act of utter insanity to do so while the man was still there armed with two Molotov cocktails. It's been awhile since I had first aid training but I always remember that you should make sure the area is safe before you render aid, and it's a miracle that this guy didn't light up the folks that were trying to help the wounded.
What is even more bizarre is that nobody tried to fight this guy. This was Boulder Colorado so I am guessing a CCW was out of the question, but the guy wasn't armed other than with a couple of unlit Molotov cocktails. It would have been trivial to tackle him and remove him as a threat. And you probably wouldn't even have to do that considering he surrendered immediately when the police arrived. Instead everyone just yelled at the guy and filmed him. It was luck that he didn't set anyone else on fire and it also doesn't speak well to the Boulder Police that it took so long to arrest this man.
This attack seems to have been pretty poorly planned out. The attacker seems to have used alcohol instead of gasoline for his weapons. Alcohol burns hot but it burns quickly and it seems like the fires he set went out fairly quickly. It's very possible that if he had targeted a group of younger people, nobody would have gotten hurt. But he targeted a bunch of old people that probably couldn't get out of the way.
I don't think there is much reason to doubt the motive. When a guy named Mohamed Sabry Soliman lights people on fire while yelling "free Palestine" it's not hard to figure out what his motive is. It's just another example of anti-Semitic terrorism, just like the recent murder of the two Israeli diplomats in Washington DC.
It does show how deranged the pro-Hamas cause is. These folks weren't supporting Israel, they were marching for the return of the hostages, and they were a bunch of old people too. Even if you hate Israel these folks had nothing to do with it and attacking them is only going to alienate everyone else, outside of the most deranged antisemites on both the left and the right. Indeed, these kinds of actions pushed me from the "a pox on both houses" camp into a fairly pro-Israel outlook. All the worst people are supporting Hamas and more than a few are making excuses for this attack as well.
Finally, I have to say the optics of this shows just how messed up the political culture is in the United States today. Some foreigner brought his war over to the United States, and tried to fight it here. And he did it in front of a Pride Flag in one of the most liberal cities in the country. I don't even know what any of this means but the optics of it is nuts.
