A California man has been arrested for the attempted murder of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. BBC. Nicholas John Roske had planned to murder Kavanaugh and was arrested with a pistol, knife, pepper spray and various burglar tools. Roske had been spotted by US Marshalls but ended up arresting after he called 911 to report his plan. Roske said he wanted to murder Kavanaugh because of potential rulings on abortion and gun rights that went against his beliefs. Kavanaugh has been targeted by protesters and has received threats since the draft of a ruling that would overturn Roe v Wade.

My Comment:

Some people will downplay this because Roske obviously failed in his attack. Plus he reported himself, which suggests this was more about getting attention to himself than actually killing Kavanaugh. He also appears to be a bit mental since he was suicidal.

I do think that Kavanaugh could have been killed here. Though Kavanaugh's security did spot Roske, they did not arrest him. Indeed, the only reason he was caught is because he reported himself for some reason. My guess is he got cold feet at the last minute.

It could have gone way worse though. If Roske had kept his composure or he somehow contacted Kavanaugh he probably would have shot him and Kavanaugh would have had a good chance of dying. Without knowing the details of Kavanaugh's security I am not sure how likely that is, but it was a much higher chance than it should be.

I am certain that Roske was inspired by the media coverage of both gun control and abortion. The coverage has been hysterical at the very least and has often passed over into open threats. How many Democrat politicians have encouraged protests at peoples homes because they said something they didn't like?

It's also pretty obvious why it was Kavanaugh that was targeted as opposed to the other conservative justices. Roberts probably got a pass for being a conservative in name only. But Samuel Alito was the author of the Roe v Wade repeal case. However, the media just pretends that Alito doesn't exist. Kavanaugh however has been portrayed as a villain ever since they rolled out ridiculous accusations that he was a sex offender without any real evidence. Since he's the one the media covers the most, he's the one that was almost murdered.

It's fairly obvious but I have to point out the absolute utter hypocrisy of using a firearm to protest gun rights. Roske was able to get a firearm and was going to use it despite California's strict gun laws. How he managed to transport it across the country is still a mystery to me. But the fact is that he was going to protest mass shootings by shooting an innocent person.

The media is downplaying this factor of the attack and focusing on the fact that Roske was also upset about abortion. It would mean that this was another terror attack in the name of abortion, of all things. I wrote awhile back about the firebombing of a pro-life group in my state of Wisconsin, and there have been a few similar attacks since then. With the FBI more concerned with parents speaking out at school board meetings I fully expect there to be more abortion related terror attacks, especially after Roe v Wade gets overturned, if it indeed gets overturned.

What is really scary to me is what would have happened if this plot has succeeded. I have zero faith in the Democrats so my guess is that they would have replaced Kavanaugh with a liberal justice. That would have resulted in a serious shake up in the court and would have changed the court into a 4-4-1 split with Roberts being the split vote. Republicans would be rightly furious over that and would not accept the state of things.
