United States condemns the Taliban for use of summary executions.

The United States and the European Union has condemned the Taliban for their use of summary executions. NBC News. Human Rights Watch, a human rights NGO, said that the Taliban had either killed or disappeared 47 former military members. The Taliban had announced a blanket amnesty for past members of the former Afghan government. They also said that they had punished members of their government who had engaged in extrajudicial killings. The Taliban has tried to portray themselves as more moderate than their previous incarnation but they have faced accusations of killings and intolerance. The Taliban has also faced major problems with economy and food production.

My Comment:

This is another consequence of Joe Biden's incompetent pull out from Afghanistan. All of this could have been prevented if we had evacuated the former members of the government and military. Instead we didn't and instead evacuated people that just happened to show up at the airport, leaving thousands of people left behind. Not to mention that most of those people were not vetted and it's likely that Taliban, al-Qaeda and ISIS fighters made their way to America that way.

Of course there is an argument that we should not have taken these people in regardless. After all, it was primarily these people that failed against the Taliban. If it hadn't been for the corruption of the government and the failure of the military the Afghan government might still be standing. But that argument is pretty moot at this point as people were evacuated.

Honestly though, the scale of killings seems to be extremely minor. Only 47 people getting killed/abducted is not a major problem. And that's if you believe Human Rights Watch's numbers. I generally don't trust human rights groups as they have motivation to lie about such things. It's possible that the true number is either higher or lower than the quoted numbers, but I do think some of the killings probably did happen.

The question is if they were ordered to happen by the government or if it was just the rank and file people that did this. I think it's possible that this was just rouge Taliban settling the score. Why? Just because of the small number of people killed. If the Taliban was going to murder everyone their would be a lot more deaths.

As for the international community condemning this, don't make me laugh. Nobody outside of the United States has the power to do anything about this so it's just a bunch of noise from them. And the United States? We finally ended the war in Afghanistan. We aren't going to go back because the Taliban killed a few people.
