Russia shares video of one of their SU-27's intercepting US and Swedish spy jets.

A collage showing both the US RC-135 and the Swedish Gulfstream. RT/Russian Defense Ministry.

A quick post about a video I saw and thought I should share. Russia has released footage of one of their SU-27's intercepting an American RC-135 and a Swedish Gulfstream spy jet. RT has a short article up describing what happened. The interception happened in the Baltic Sea and was without incident, unlike many of these encounters where there have been close calls.

The video itself isn't that exciting but it's pretty rare that we get video posted from these intercepts. It's cool to see if nothing else. It also shows how these interceptions should go. The SU-27 got close but not so close to put anyone in danger.

Russia is probably trying to make themselves look more powerful and justify to their own people their military spending. I also don't think it's a coincidence that only Russia-based outlets, like RT, are covering the video. They want their military to look powerful and the more western outlets don't want to do the same.
