Supreme Court says that certain illegal immigrants cannot apply for permanent residency.

The Supreme Court has ruled that certain illegal immigrants cannot apply for permanent residency. Reuters. The ruling says that illegals that try to apply for a green card but have been granted Temporary Protected Status can not gain legal residence. The Supreme Court said that immigrants must be in the country legally and the TPS did not satisfy that requirement. TPS is granted to illegals when their country of origin is undergoing a war or disaster. 400,000 illegals are currently in America with TPS status. The ruling was unanimous and was supported by the Biden administration.

My Comment:

A good ruling from the Supreme Court. Allowing illegal immigrants to jump the line for legal immigrants is unconscionable. It doesn't matter at all that their home countries are terrible, they should always be the lowest priority. It should go Citizens>legal immigrants>illegals.

I generally think that Temporary Protected Status should not exist. If someone is in the country illegally that should be the end of the discussion, they get deported no matter what. If they cannot return to their home countries they should go to prison instead until such a time that we can deport them safely or until they expire. Either way they should be forever barred from citizenship or even entrance to the United States.

But that's not politically feasible. Thankfully though these criminals won't have their behavior rewarded now. They will be allowed to stay in the country unfortunately, but they will not be given legal status and green cards. This was the right call.

Which makes me wonder why the Biden administration and the liberal Supreme Court Justices went along with it. Usually the left lays down for illegals and does everything in their power to let them stay in the country. I think the legal argument is strong but I don't think it's so strong that the liberal justices would actually put the law first over political loyalty.

Liberal groups and activists will not be happy with this ruling and the Biden administration's support of it. It may worsen the split between the progressive left and the more centrist (in comparison) Biden administration. I don't think it will blow up the Democratic Party, but it will make the fault lines that already exist more dangerous.

As for illegal immigration, this is about the only good news in this area since the election was stolen. Biden has essentially given up on enforcing immigration laws and the border is in crisis. This ruling won't do much other than ensure illegals can't get green cards. It does nothing to keep these people in their home countries or at least try to enter America legally.
