Delta is one of the companies that may be punished by Republicans. Politico/Getty.
Republican politicians are finally pushing back against woke corporations. Politico. In reaction to companies attacks on election security laws from Georgia and other states, Republicans have launched boycott movements against those companies. But the real change might come from punishing these companies by pulling special privilege's. For example Delta almost lost their fuel tax break in Georgia and Republicans have suggested pulling an anti-trust exemption from Major League Baseball. The efforts mark a major shift for Republicans who have often backed big business.
My Comment:
It's good to see Republicans actually stand up for themselves for once. It is clear that these companies are not acting out of profit motive anymore and are instead trying to impose their politics on the rest of the country. It's one thing to be pro-business, but it's another to commit suicide.
It's also clear that both the Republicans and the Democrats both realize how important election security is. Despite it being banned from public discourse, the idea that the 2020 election was stolen seems to be confirmed by the actions of these companies.
The idea that black people are somehow so incompetent that they can't even obtain a free identification card is, of course, racist. Given that you have to show ID to pretty much do anything in this country it's incredibly hypocritical for these companies to speak out against election security laws. Indeed, many of these companies require you to show ID for their services meaning that they don't want people that somehow don't have ID's to not be customers but they are fine with them voting? It's a total joke.
I also am happy that Republicans have realized that boycotts are not enough. Though boycott movements from the right have hurt several companies they alone are not enough to change the policy of these companies. But cutting the benefits these companies get? That will really hurt their bottom line. Losing something like anti-trust protection or tax breaks could change the minds of these CEO's or at the very least pressure them via their stockholders. I know if I owned stock in Coke or Delta I would be on the phone yelling at anyone who would listen and pushing for the removal of the people that made these insane decisions.
I completely disagree with people on the right arguing that the culture war is just a distraction from real issues. I couldn't disagree more, the culture war is pretty much the only thing that matters and it's honestly pretty likely that if we do nothing it will end up in a real shooting war. People on the right have had it with the abuse the left has heaped on us. The only way to avoid a real fight is to actually push back.
I also think that it's beyond time to for the Republicans to distance themselves from big business. We have no reason to defend people that hate us. And it's clear that the Republicans are moving in a more populist direction. Taking care of the people should be more important than making sure some business can outsource their jobs to a foreign country while at the same time lecturing people for having the temerity of demanding free and fair elections.
