Nation of Islam follower attacks the US Capitol, killing a police officer.

A Nation of Islam follower attacked the US Capitol today, ramming his car into two police officers, killing one of them. Yahoo News. The attacker, identified as 25 year old Noah R. Green, was shot by police after leaving his car armed with a knife. All three people were rushed to the hospital but Green and Officer William Evens died. The suspect was a follower of Louis Farrakhan and his Nation of Islam. The motive is unclear but police do not believe that it was an organized terror attack. The US Capitol has been on high alert since the January 6th counter-coup, with fencing and additional police and national guard presence. Congress was not in session when the attack occurred.

My Comment:

I missed the beginning of this story so when I heard the news I was already seeing the backpedaling from the blue checkmarks on twitter and from journalists. They had already blamed this attack on "white supremacists", which of course ended up being the exact opposite of what happened. And again, nobody will be held accountable for passing on their racism as news. Indeed, people are still blaming President Trump for this attack even though the attacker was a black nationalist.

The Nation of Islam is a particularly nasty group of black nationalists that even looney left wing groups like the Southern Poverty Law center have them classified as a hate group. They and their leader Louis Farrakhan are extremely racist against whites and Jews and this isn't the first hate crime they have committed. They are also not fond of LGBT individuals.

Did they have any involvement in this attack? Probably not. We don't know what Green's motive is and with him being dead we might never know his motive. I don't think they encourage actual attacks as they are a millenarian group that thinks Allah will take care of white people for them, so they don't need to go out and try and kill people.

It might have been an anti-police attack. Obviously policing is in the news with the George Floyd case in the news along with the capitol police as well. The Nation of Islam does hate cops so if there is a political angle here I think it would be the false impression that blacks are targeted by cops leading to a belief that running over two cops is somehow ok.

It's also possible that this was another case of suicide by cop. You don't charge at a police officer armed with a knife unless you want to die and that's exactly what happened. If he was going for more casualties he probably would have stayed in his car.

Speaking of cars, this is another example of a ramming attack that is becoming a lot more common after the Nice attacks in France. That attack was spectacularly effective and has inspired many copy cat attacks, possibly even this one. That success is why I don't buy the gun control arguments that making guns inaccessible will prevent mass casualty attacks. Green attacked a fortified position and still managed to kill someone, all with only a car that anyone can get without a background check.

I think that the increased security around the US capitol did not help with this attack and may have even drawn it. Had there been a smaller police presence it's possible that Green would not have found targets to attack. I personally think that the fencing and additional measures should be pulled back and should have never gone up in the first place. It's security theater and it seems pretty clear that it is putting these police officers at risk.

I do think that this attack will fade rather quickly from the news. The combination of race and politics does not match the media narratives so I doubt the story will last for more than a day outside of the conservative media, and even they will move onto new things.

It's a shame because I do think the problem of black supremacists does not get enough attention. For all the hand wringing about "white supremacists", which hardly even exist, black supremacists have pulled of some major attacks, including the Dallas police shootings and now this. I would hope that the feds pull some of the funds and personal from the people that participated in the January 6th protests and go after an actual threat but no, got to make sure that some poor grandma from Peoria gets her trespassing misdemeanor. With the focus so out of whack at the justice department don't be surprised if we see more dead police officers caused by these groups.
