Newly released documents related to Jeffrey Epstein show multiple big names are accused of sex trafficking and rape of underage girls. The Daily Beast. The unsealed court records come from Virginia Giuffre, who claimed that Epstein and his socialite friend Ghislaine Maxwell forced her to have sex with multiple powerful men. Some of the men named in the files included former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, Prince Andrew of England, financier Glenn Durbin, former Democratic Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, scientist Marvin Minsky and modeling agent  Jean-Luc Brunel along with many others. Many of the men named in the documents denied their contents and none have been arrested or convicted of any crime. Giuffre has also accused lawyer Alan Dershowitz of sexual assault, but those accusations were public long before today's release.  

My Comment:

Some fairly big names on this list, some of them long suspected and others a surprise. Everyone already knew about Prince Andrew, Jean-Luc Brunel and Alan Dershowitz. Those accusations have been public for quite some time. 

But Bill Richardson and George Mitchell? Huge names. Bill Richardson was a hugely important figure for the Democrats. He was a major governor and ran for president and had a decent chance of being President of the United States. He was also a major political pundit in the earlier days of cable news. 

George Mitchell was also similarly hugely important. He used to be the Senate Majority Leader for the Democrats. He was also a major diplomat, being an envoy to Northern Ireland and the Middle East. He was even a chairman of the Walt Disney corporation! These are not no-name people here.

These accusations are quite old though. These were the original ones that got Epstien in trouble in the first place, not the more recent ones that got him arrested. That's probably why most of the people mentioned haven't been relevant for awhile. The origin of the case was a defamation lawsuit which was settled out of court but the information was ordered released. 

The documents are available but I haven't had a chance to go through them. There are quite a few of them and the excerpts I have seen are terrible. Giuffre claimed to be a sex slave that was pimped out to the rich and powerful. It seems clear that Epstein and Maxwell didn't see her as fully human. 

Speaking of Ghislaine Maxwell, it seems like her role in this was larger than reported. It sounds like she sexually abused some girls as well and helped Epstein traffic them. She's just as important in this scandal as Epstein is but her role isn't as widely known. 

It is important to restate that none of the accusations have been proven in a court of law. But they should prove as a guide for both Federal and state authorities investigating Epstein as well as independent investigators. Evidence was released that show that at the very least Epstein was travelling with underage girls and it seems extremely likely that at least some of the accusations are true. 

I fully expect more documents to be released and more big names to be named as this investigation continues. I also expect more information is hiding out in these files, nobody has had time to review them all at this point. As more information comes out I will continue to follow and blog about this story as it appears to be one of the bigger scandals this country has ever had.
