One of the explosions. RT.
Eight people have been inured after a fire broke out at an artillery depot, causing multiple explosions in Kamenka, Russia. RT. The base contained 40,000 125mm and 152mm artillery shells commonly used in Russian Howitzers. Of the eight people injured, two were Russian soldiers, who suffered shrapnel wounds. Other victims suffered burns from the fire. Two fire trains were sent to the scene of the fire and many of the surrounding villages were evacuated.
Just a short post
Not too much to say on this one other than the videos above are pretty compelling stuff. I can't imagine many worse situations than a fire at an arms depot. It is an extremely dangerous situation and it's a minor miracle that nobody got killed. It seems as though the situation is now under control.
There are conflicting reports from western outlets that someone died in this incident. The Russians deny this but I have no idea who is right. Given how dangerous the situation is, it's not to surprising that someone would die. And Russia isn't beyond lying about deaths, as they often did in the Syria conflict. Still, I don't really know if the western media is any better.
This incident is going to have an economic impact on Russia as well. The largest Aluminium factory outside of China had to evacuate because of this incident. Though it seems as though the factory is safe, it will still be a major disruption.
Finally, it does seem that Russia has had a series of these kinds of accidents. They have lost a couple of drydocks to industrial accidents. This has crippled their Navy and made their aircraft carrier useless. And they just lost a research submarine as well. It's not a good time for Russia and safety and I think they need to do something to improve their safety.
