My Comment:
It's things like this that radicalized me. Sending aid to Syria after it was taken over by Jihadists? It's insane. We shouldn't be sending any money or aid at all to a government that will likely be led by HTS, which, as I keep pointing out, used to be an al-Qaeda affiliate and was al-Nusra, the 2nd worst terror group in Syria.
Indeed, we have little interest in Syria other than preventing those folks from taking power in the first place. We have failed at that, we didn't do a thing to save the Syrian government and did everything in our power to actually ensure that it fell. Sending money to the folks that are by all accounts really bad people is a horrible idea.
I don't trust Biden's words that he will be watching the HTS group. Biden's both a lame duck president and an empty suit. I also don't think he has all that much in the way of a problem with Syria being ruled by radical Sunni Muslim terrorists. He doesn't care at all about the various religious minorities that are at risk, like the Shite Muslims, Alawites, Christians, Druze and so on.
Keep in mind that Biden is going to send money to Syria while the folks in North Carolina are still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Helene. We don't know how much money is going to be sent to Syria yet but every single cent would be better spent helping folks in America. The fact that the money is going to be given to folks that not only hate us, but stand a good chance of turning the country into a hub for terrorists is just a slap in the face.
The only good news is that Biden at least recognizes that ISIS is going to be a huge threat in Syria and is bombing them. The hope is that by doing so they won't be able to take a bunch of territory in the wake of the regime falling. But the problem is that they are already doing so and a few air strike aren't going to be enough. And we don't know how HTS and ISIS will interact, they have been historical enemies, but I think HTS will be too busy with trying to build a country to actually do anything about them.
