Prime Minster of Haiti survives assassination attempt.

The Prime Minster of Haiti survived an assassination attempt this weekend. NBC News. PM Ariel Henry was at a church for a Haitian independence day event when gunfire broke out. Haiti blamed terrorists and criminals for the attack and local media say it was gang related. At least one person was killed and two more were injured. A local gang leader had made threats against Henry in local media. Henry took power in Haiti after the previous Prime Minster, Jovenel Moise, was himself assassinated. He has faced questions about his legitimacy since then.

My Comment:
Not much to say on this one other than you should watch the video. It was less of an assassination attempt than an actual gun fight. Thankfully the assassins failed and the security forces did a good job protecting the Prime Minster. My guess is that the attackers were not that skilled with their weapons as they hardly seemed to hit anyone.

It's kind of strange that the story is breaking now. The attack happened on Saturday but I hadn't heard a thing about this until today. Perhaps the Haitian government was suppressing the story? Given how important an assassination attempt would be, especially in Haiti, it seems like a hard story to keep quiet.

Haiti does not seem like a stable country at all, and this could make the immigration crisis even worse. Many Haitians may see the writing on the wall and might want to get out. Given how the last Prime Minister died and now this one was almost assassinated who could blame them, especially given how dysfunctional Haiti is during the best of times?

It also seems pretty clear that Haiti's crime is out of control. If this was the work of a local gang leader, like the article suggests, that means that Haiti needs to do something and do it now. When the criminals can take a shot at the government that means they are way more powerful than they should be.
