Kim Jong Un makes threats as North Korea peace talks languish.

Kim Jong Un has made some new threats as peace talks with North Korea languish. Reuters. Kim convened a rare gathering of officials and rode a horse in a symbolic ride on Mt. Paektu. President Trump reluctantly said that force could be used against North Korea but that he hoped talks still happened. In response North Korea threatened the United States. North Korea also made a demand for new talks before the end of the year and if they don't happen they could take a new path, that might include missile and nuclear weapons tests.

My Comment:
The North Koreans are making noise again. My guess is it's to get attention. North Korea is on the far back-burner for the United States right now. Impeachment has drowned out everything else and makes accomplishing anything, including foreign policy, impossible.

And it's not like North Korea is even the most pressing foreign policy problem. Afghanistan is a big one as well to the point where talks with the Taliban will probably take precedence over North Korea. And there are trade deals with Canada and Mexico that need to be passed, problems with NATO and the threat that Turkey is posing. Frankly, the United States has a full plate.

Still, North Korea is making a huge mistake in trying to push right now. The status quo was better than they have had in years but it looks like they are risking pissing it all away. Threatening the United States is not the way to accomplish anything here. It's going to make President Trump much less likely to try and make a deal.

I also think they were totally overreacting to what President Trump said. Yes, he said military force is an option but that shouldn't be a surprise. It obviously is an option, but the North Koreans missed the other part of what President Trump said.

President Trump still wants peace. He wants talks and he seems genuine in trying to improve relations with Kim Jong Un. North Korea has a huge opportunity to make peace as I doubt any other President will give them such a fair shake. If they were smart they would make some concessions and make a deal. Burning bridges with him is the wrong move. North Korea can't win without him and turning him into an enemy could bring them destruction.

Still, this another example of the Democrat's impeachment jihad is backfiring on America. We got very close to a peace deal but it fell apart. We can't bring it back up right now because President Trump has to focus on the impeachment if he wants to stay in office. If the Democrats hadn't undermined him at every opportunity we probably would have a peace deal and a nuclear free Korea...
