ISIS is now threatening Russia and Vladimir Putin. -Yahoo/AFP

Vladimir Putin. Yahoo/AFP.

ISIS is threatening to remove Vladimir Putin from power and "liberate" the Caucuses from Russia. Yahoo/AFP. ISIS issued the threat after possibly capturing a Russian provided fighter jet. ISIS also threatened Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad for taking arms from Russia and fighting against ISIS. Russia has it's own past with Islamic militants and the Caucuses have long been a hotbed of violence between Russia and it's Muslim minority. Russia, for it's part, is opening a criminal investigation to the threats.

My Comment:
ISIS continues to threaten every regional power in the area. You would think under normal circumstances Russia and the west would be able to put aside their differences and work against a common enemy but these are hardly normal circumstances. I will say that for both Russia and Europe the bigger security threat is not Ukraine. It is ISIS. When it comes to ISIS Russia, America, the EU, Iran, Iraq and Syria are all on the same side, whether they like it or not.

As for Russia, they don't play around when it comes to terrorism. The have had a long history of fighting Islamic separatists in Chechnya and have responded to terror attacks with an iron fist, with little regard to civilian casualties. They are absolutely brutal but desperate times call for desperate measures. Unfortunately Russia's military is bogged down in Ukraine. I do see them giving more support to Syria due to this threat.
