UK Prime Minster Boris Johnson has been moved to the intensive care unit after being hospitalized yesterday. NBC News. Johnson's condition worsened today and was put into the ICU under doctor's orders. With Johnson hospitalized and in serious condition his foreign secretary, Dominic Raab will fill in for him in maters he cannot handle himself. Johnson was diagnosed with the Coronavirus around 10 days ago.

My Comment:
Just a quick update to yesterday's post about Johnson. I don't have a whole lot to add but I figured that this was an important development in his condition and it warranted an update. This situation is very serious now and it's very possible that Prime Minster Johnson will either not make it through or will be incapacitated for a long time.

It's unclear how bad Johnson's health is. They don't send you to the intensive care unit for mild symptoms but it's also not certain that he's going to be put on a ventilator. It's possible that his oxygen levels are low and that he's just getting support oxygen instead of full ventilation. With ventilators being so invasive you usually don't go on one unless you are dying anyways, so if Johnson is on one than his condition is a lot worse than we realized. But it doesn't sound like anyone knows outside of the British Government.

As I stated yesterday, Johnson is probably at higher risk than many others. He's 55, and the virus starts to become more dangerous in that age group, though nowhere near as bad as people in their 70's and 80's have it. He's also overweight which is an issue as well. Plus he is dealing with the stress of running a country going through a disaster and has to worry about his pregnant fiance who also has the disease. He doesn't seem to have any of the other major risk factors for Coronavirus, like heart disease or diabetes, which is a plus. Also in the plus column for him is the fact that he will get the best medical treatment available.

I personally hope Johnson pulls through. Though he hasn't handled this crisis particularly well, he did finally deliver Brexit for the British people who voted for it. He's been a decent leader for the UK and a good friend to the United States. Plus I kinda like the guy for his British eccentricities and manor.

But the chances of that not happening have increased. If he does succumb to the virus it will be the first major world leader to fall to the disease. It would be a huge blow to the UK and a wake up call to all the other world leaders that even they are vulnerable to the disease. Even if he pulls through it shows that nobody is invulnerable to this disease and even our leadership can come down with it.
