Why is American Media giving North Korea's Kim Jong Un's sister such fawning coverage?

Kim Yo Jong. Kim Jimseok, ROK.

I haven't been following the Olympics at all since I don't care for sports, but even I haven't been able to avoid the latest controversy. News outlets, like CNN and others, have been giving very fawning coverage for Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong. Kim Yo Jong is the head of North Korea's Propaganda and Agitation department and seems like the last person the Western media should praise.

But praise her they have. Conservative media is rightly outraged. Why on earth would they be giving positive coverage to a woman like Kim Yo Jong, who is an enemy of America and a major participant in the Kim regime that rules North Korea like and iron fist? She's part of a murderous and evil regime and is complicit with their worst crimes. In short, she's a bad person and giving her positive coverage is essentially supporting her.

Why on Earth would our media do such a thing? I have a few theories.

1. The news media just hates Donald Trump so much that they are willing to work with anyone, even America's enemies, just to undermine him. Such behavior would have been unthinkable just a few years ago but with the obvious hatred for Trump in our media it certainly seems possible. This is the explanation that conservative media has gone with.

2. They just want to cover a woman leader. Kim Yo Jong is a rare world leader that is both a woman and semi-attractive. Any woman in a leadership role, even if she is the sister of a brutal dictator, needs to have good coverage. This seems almost farcical but how else do you explain the media's coverage of Hillary Clinton? It might be enough that Jong is a woman. Plus sex sells, even if that sex appeal is from a somewhat attractive sister of a dictator.

3. This is all a misguided attempt at diplomacy. Relations between America and North Korea are in the toilet and it looks like war is possible. The media, seeing that and not liking Trump's approach may be trying to improve relations between North and South Korea. After all, that's the reason why Jong is at the Olympics. By doing so they are undermining our government and trying to conduct diplomacy on their own, which is completely unacceptable.

I don't think any of these explanations are mutually exclusive. Indeed, I think all three are probably a factor. Still, it's very disappointing to see the media give such coverage to the sister of a murderous dictator and a terrible person in her own right.
