The case for panic. Ebola, ISIS, and Russia are nothing compared to our governments incompetence. Washington Free Beacon

AP/Reuters/Washington Free Beacon

In an opinion piece from the Washington Free Beacon, Matthew Continetti argues that panic might be the right response to current events. Not because Ebola, ISIS, Russia and terrorism are huge threats, but because the government is unable to handle them.

My Comment:
Not much of a summery, I know, but that's because I want you to read the whole article. Obviously since it's from the Washington Free Beacon it's fairly biased towards conservatism but it does speak to some important truths. I don't agree with everything Continetti says in the article but the fundamental point, that our government is both failing to deal with these issues and focusing on irrelevant things instead, is incredibly true. And it's also true that our entire government, not just the Obama administration, is very bad at listening to what the people want.

It really mirrors my own thinking, only I have to say that the fact that the government is actively screwing people over adds to my distrust of them. The current White House has committed some serious abuses of American citizens. Continetti mentioned the IRS scandal, but I would argue that the NSA one was bigger. Plus the fact that Obama feels the need to butt into minor criminal cases like the Trayvon Martin shooting and the Michael Brown shooting while the world is burning makes it very hard to trust the government right now. How anyone in the Obama White House thinks that a two-bit shooting in a backwater town has anywhere near the importance as Ebola or ISIS is beyond me.

And I think he is spot on when he said that the reason that travel to and from the Ebola stricken countries is because of political correctness. Completely closing down the borders would be an over reaction but there is absolutely no need for non-essential travel to and from these countries right now. But somehow banning non-essential travel from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guiana would be "racist". I'm not sure how but it seems these days that everything is racist to the political left.

So yes, I do agree that some panic is warranted in this situation. None of the threats we are facing right now would be anywhere near as dangerous if our government wasn't so focused on everything but foreign policy. Obama wanted to transform America domestically, but the cost is going to be extravagant when it comes to foreign policy. And every one of Obama's domestic "achievements", which I am not too fond of anyways, risk being wiped out by current events.
