The mainstream media finally catches the import ban on AK 47's and Saiga 12's. -CNN

If you think I need an excuse to post Mikhail Kalashnikov... CNN

CNN finally reports on the fact that there is an import ban for AK-47's and Saiga 12's.  The sanctions on Russian based arms manufacture Kalashnikov Concern have caused a run on AK's in the United States. The sanctions are in response to the Ukrainian Civil War. The weapons are still legal to own and other companies in former soviet block countries appear to be picking up the slack but Russian-made rifles are no longer legal for import.

My Comment:
Of course if you are reading this blog chances are you knew already too. I posted about it on 7/16/14. I guess it's better late then never but sometimes i wonder if the media is paying attention at all. No mention of the Saiga's in this article though, which is amazing considering how popular it is. Typical.

Also, Flight 17 complicates things. With Russia sorely deserving sanctions, in the eyes of the public at least, there is pretty much zero chance of this ban ending anytime soon. Very bad news for people in the market for an AK-47 or Saiga 12, probably good news for producers of AR-15 type rifles.
